    Kathakali Recital - Cleopatra - "A Kathakali adaptation of William Shakespeare's Anthony and Cleopatra" DRIVE EAST: Drive East (driveeastnyc.org) is an expansive Indian dance and music festival that features 30+ concerts in just two week. In its sixth year, our week long festival will be in New York from August 13 - 19 and San Francisco from August 22 - 26. It is a festival that regularly features some of the best artists of the year from all over the globe(last year The New York Times mentioned two Drive East artists as the top 10 of 2017) and is an immersive experience into the world of Indian classical arts. Whether you are a seasoned patron or interested in learning more, there is an experience for everyone in this extraordinary festival. Prabal Gupta, is a performer, choreographer, and research scholar. He is a disciple of the Central Sangeet Natak Academy Awardee and the legendary Kathakali Exponent and Research Scholar – Guru Sri Sadanam Balakrishnanji. His research papers “The Art of Kathakali – Then and Now – A Comparative Analogy” which speaks about soloism in Kathakali, “The Biological Nomenclatures of StreeVesham and its Aesthetic Transformation while performing Kathakali streevesham by a male” and “ The Role of Performing Arts in Education” are published in various research journals. Prabal is also a graded artist of Doordarshan and is empanelled as an “ESTABLISHED ARTIST” by the expert committee of the council for the ICCR’s reference panel of artists under the Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. Of India. Prabal is also recognized as an “ OUTSTANDING ARTIST” by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India for Festivals of India held abroad.
